APRI Armenia is looking for a Research Fellow in Economic Security. We invite an individual enthusiastic about geoeconomics and Armenia’s future economic trajectory to join our growing team. The successful candidate will co-design, manage, and deliver APRI Armenia’s inaugural research project on energy security and help reinforce the geoeconomics capabilities of APRI Armenia, with an opportunity for growth and advancement to drive APRI Armenia’s long-term Geoeconomics Program.
This is a unique opportunity for a seasoned expert, passionate about geoeconomics and improving Armenia’s economic future to help drive the thought leadership and engagement of APRI Armenia, and support the wider civic debate on these areas of greater importance.
The Research Fellow in Economic Security will report to the Vice President of Strategy and Development, working full-time from APRI Armenia’s office in Yerevan. You will join a dynamic and diverse team, committed to APRI Armenia’s mission to help shape Armenia’s trajectory towards a more stable, prosperous, and democratic future. You will be engaged in research and strategic convening of events, contributing to the expansion of APRI Armenia’s engagement in geoeconomics.
Responsibilities
Specific tasks include, but are not limited to:
- The first task of the successful candidate will be to co-design, manage, and deliver a pilot research project related to Armenia’s economic security.
- Engage with key stakeholders such as public institutions, intergovernmental organizations, thought leadership and research institutions, and donors to ensure that the pilot project on economic security is policy-relevant and impactful.
- Oversee the activities taking place under the pilot project, including events and research; this includes being responsible for the timely execution of initiatives designed under the project.
- Represent APRI Armenia at external events related to geoeconomics and economic security.
- Work closely with the Vice President of Strategy and Development and the Communications Department to ensure world-class review and publication of research outputs related to the pilot project.
- Alongside the Vice President of Strategy and Development and the Communications Department drive the execution of authoritative communications and stakeholder engagement plans on APRI Armenia’s thought leadership related to economic security.
- Support funding applications related to APRI Armenia’s pilot project in economic security and geoeconomics more broadly in the design and writing stages.
Experience and skills
- Advanced academic degree (Master’s degree level as a minimum) on economics/international political economy or comparable fields of study; PhD would be an advantage.
- A career in economics, with a minimum of three years of experience working in economic policy, economic statecraft, trade or FDI policy, in research and/or policy advice roles in Armenia or in another relevant country.
- Solid organizational and project management skills, showing an ability to adapt to independent or collaborative work.
- Armenian and English at a professional level is mandatory.
- Good knowledge of a third language (preferably Russian) is an advantage.
- Ability to communicate data-based findings to a general audience.
- Demonstrable ability to think strategically, turning ideas into action.
- World-class stakeholder engagement skills, both with Armenian and non-Armenian stakeholders.
- Interpersonal, collaborative, and problem-solving skills demonstrated by the ability to work in a multicultural environment.
- The successful candidate will not hold any political affiliation in Armenia or elsewhere.
- The successful candidate cannot have concomitant professional or academic commitments that may impact their ability to work full-time for APRI Armenia.
Duration of contract
The successful candidate will be hired for 12 months under a service contract, renewable under the law of the Republic of Armenia.
