APRI Armenia’s Statement on the Ethical Use of Generative AI

March 13, 2026

As digital transformation accelerates, APRI Armenia views Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) as a tool to enhance productivity and research depth while remaining steadfast in its commitment to critical thinking, accuracy, and intellectual integrity.

This statement outlines the principles that govern how APRI Armenia integrates GenAI into its research, communications, and daily operations.

1. Core Principles

APRI Armenia’s approach is guided by the ALLEA European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity and is centered on four pillars:

  • General rule: APRI Armenia forbids extensive or significant usage of GenAI in its external outreach, communication or research outputs.
  • Human Agency & Oversight: GenAI is a collaborator, not a researcher or designated communicator. Every piece of work published by APRI Armenia is the result of human critical thinking, analysis, and final decision-making.
  • Transparency: APRI Armenia believes in honest communication. In limited cases, when GenAI is used to shape the research process, external communication or drafting of a public output, APRI Armenia provides appropriate disclosure to its readers.
  • Data Sovereignty & Privacy: APRI Armenia does not input confidential information, unpublished research, or private donor information into public GenAI models.
  • Contextual Integrity: APRI Armenia’s  strength lies in its deep understanding of Armenia and the region. APRI Armenia guards against “AI-heavy” writing that lacks local nuance, ensuring well-grounded and fact-based analysis and insights.

2. Professional Standards

APRI Armenia may utilize GenAI to augment their capabilities, specifically for:

  • Synthesizing vast amounts of public information and emerging trends.
  • Brainstorming diverse hypotheses and assumptions.
  • Improving the clarity and accessibility of complex documents.
  • Automating administrative and organizational workflows.

APRI Armenia does not permit:

  • The use of AI-generated content as a substitute for original communication, research or expert analysis.
  • The inclusion of AI-generated citations or data without independent human verification.
  • The attribution of authorship to GenAI; responsibility for all work lies solely with the named human authors.

3. Disclosures & Accountability

Transparency is essential to maintaining trust. APRI Armenia adopts a tiered approach to disclosure:

  • Full Disclosure: If a report, online publication, or printed document has been assisted by GenAI, a clear statement will be included (e.g., in the methodology, footnotes, or article preamble).
  • Internal Assistance: Minor uses, such as grammar correction or translation of public news articles, are considered part of standard professional tools and do not require external disclosure.

4. Continuous Evolution

The landscape of Artificial Intelligence is rapidly changing. APRI Armenia oversees the regular review of our AI protocols, conducts staff training, and ensures its ethics keep pace with technological advancements.

APRI Armenia remains committed to modeling responsible digital citizenship, ensuring that while tools are modern, its values remain rooted in rigorous, human-centered scholarship.
